Techniques I Use

I choose the techniques we will use in a session based on what’s going on in the moment and what your body tells me.

So don’t worry, you don’t have to decide ahead of time which of these approaches will best suit you.

I just write the list here to give you an idea of the diversity of tools I have. You are a unique individual. I do not have a one-size-fits-all protocol.

(That said, if one of these modalities really interests you, tell me and I’ll work it into the session. Likewise, I won’t do anything you don’t want.)

For simplification, I’ve divided them into four categories, starting with my basic foundation. All of them work multidimensionally on all parts of your being.

Intuitive Kinesiology

This has been the foundation of my work, although I use it less than I used to.

It’s using muscle testing (kinesiology) to verify what my intuition is telling me, which is why I call it Intuitive Kinesiology. I originally learned it as a technique called Clear Light Therapy, which uses muscle testing to work with all levels of the physical, emotional, mental and energy bodies.

Muscle testing is a form of dowsing—using a prop (in this case your arm) to receive an answer about a physical experience (in this case your body). I’ve written a booklet about dowsing with a pendulum—learn about it here.

Often you know what your body is telling you. When I say it out loud, you breathe a sigh of relief and say “I knew that. Why did I need you to say it in order for me to believe it?”

Physical Techniques


We are what we eat. What could be more simple? Are you eating the right food for your body?

If you feel tired, bloated, achy, or hungry all the time, you’re not.

I ask your body what foods will best serve you at this time in your life.

We can look at the optimal proteins and carbohydrates and fats for your body, when the best times to eat are, and which (if any) foods you should avoid.

Because your body is unique, I do not have any one type fits all food plans. Instead I use Intuitive Kinesiology to directly access your body’s wisdom.

This food plan will be one that will easily fit into your lifestyle. Remember that your body is loving and tolerant of your food cravings and busy life—it will request a food plan that you feel good commiting to.

As we age, our nutritional needs change. I recommend rechecking your food plan every three to five years, or whenever you go through a transition.

Herbs and Supplements

I’ve been studying the healing power of herbs for twenty years and am continually amazed at the healing power of plants. Herbal infusions and extracts are good ways to boost nutrition and support the body’s health.

I’m a firm believer in eating healthy food. (See my blog on healthy eating, Joy’s Organic Kitchen, to see how I do it.) However, sometimes the body needs more nutrients than what you get in food (or you are having a hard time eating healthily). In this case, your body and I will come up with a list of vitamins or other nutritional supplements to help it be healthy.

I do not sell any of these products, but most things I recommend will be available at your local health food store, and all will be available on line.

Five-Element Theory

This is an aspect of Chinese Medicine that links the acupuncture meridians with natural elements, foods, seasons and more.

While I am not an acupuncturist, I do have respect for the theories of bringing the body into balance through nourishing deficits and soothing excess.

If you have too much fire, we might turn to cooling foods or to activities that nourish the yin.

This is a complex topic which requires far more space than this. But it is one of the underpinning philosophies of my work—bring the body/mind/spirit into harmony with itself and the world around it.

Meridian Work

We have many interconnecting patterns of energy in our bodies. One is the chakra system, which I talk about in Energy Techniques.

Another is the meridian system used by acupuncturists and shiatsu practitioners.

Energy runs through the meridians to the organs of the body. Again, the key is a harmonious flow of energy throughout the meridian.

If I sense an imbalance, I use energy work—not needles or massage—to help the meridian come to balance.

(I learned the meridians when I studied Chinese massage in Montreal years ago. I no longer do massage—sorry!—but work the meridians instead by gently moving energy along them while you are fully clothed.)


Your feet not only get you where you need to go, but they show you how your whole body is doing.

Reflexology is the ancient art of applying pressure to points on the feet that correspond to the different organs in the body. Not only is this deeply relaxing, but it also helps the body to achieve a state of balance or homeostasis in which it can better heal itself. Reflexology has been found to be particularly effective for digestive disorders, neck and shoulder tension, back pain, diabetes, fibromyalgia, and general fatigue.

I was certified as a practitioner in 1992 and teacher in 1999 by the Reflexology Association of Canada. I have been practicing reflexology on myself and my family since the early 1980s.

Some clients like a full hour of reflexology. For others, I incorporate a little into the session as needed. I can also teach you how to work the reflexes on your own hands and feet to bring your body to balance.

Mental/Emotional Techniques

Spiritual Psychotherapy

When I was studying at NHC Institute in the early 1990s, one of the foundation courses was called Spiritual Psychotherapy. It was about the healing journey—looking at the bigger picture of mind/body/spirit.

The word spiritual is not tied to any religion or belief system.

It refers to the fact that we are spiritual beings on a human path, and that our spirit needs to be honored and tended just as our body does.

Its goal is to help the mind understand the spiritual process and experience of transformation.

With this background, I always work to help my clients understand their process on multiple levels. My twenty-five years of conscious inner work help me to frame and define the journey with compassion, wisdom and humor.


Affirmations are positive statements said with enthusiasm. They help the mind get on board with your healing journey.

Too often the mind is the naysayer—criticizing, deriding, warning of possible failure and impending doom. Affirmations give the mind something positive and helpful to do.

They also, when said with positive emotion, shift your vibration. This in turn shifts your life experience.

Examples of affirmations: “Everything I need to know is revealed to me. Everything I need comes to me. All is well in my life.” (Louise Hay) “People love to give me money.”  (Chellie Campbell)

The Science of Deliberate Creation emphasizes the need to be feeling positive and happy when you are saying your affirmations. This activates the Power of Atrraction to pull to you things/experiences/ideas that will make you happy. See my article on the Science of Deliberate Creation for more information.

I can work with you to devise affirmations that resonate with you and that you can say with enthusiasm to help your mind participate in your transformation.

Flower Essences

Flower essences are homeopathic remedies made from flowers. They are not aromatherapy or essential oils. They are the vibration of flowers preserved in alcohol or vinegar.

Flower essences work on the vibrational level to bring emotions, spirit and mind into alignment.

Visualization and Meditation

From visualizing a vibrant aura to meditating on the feeling of love, there are many useful techniques you can use in the quiet moments of your day to enhance your journey of transformation.

“What quiet moments?” you say. Well, that is as good a reason as any to start doing some positive imagery work—it will benefit you no end to spend ten to fifteen minutes a day doing nothing. Just being. Focusing on something that makes you feel good. Repeating a mantra. Sitting quietly while the world rushes around you.

We’re so into do-do-do. We need to take more time to be. (See my article in the nature category, titled Taking the Time to Be).

I often use imagery when working with clients.

Thought moves energy, and I can teach you to clean and harmonize your energy field using visualization.

Also, the Third Eye resonates with symbols and imagery, so I might suggest a meditation or visualization practice for you to do to support you in your transformation.

Voice Dialogue/Working with Supersonalities

We are full of conflicting desires, beliefs and opinions. Sometimes it helps to sort these parts of us out—loving Lucy, critical Cameron, apathetic Annie—and acknowledge how they influence our behaviors and our lives. (These are not multiple personalities. Rather, they are different aspects of you. You, like all humans, are a complex being.)

Sometimes in a session I will help a client access the part of her/himself that is feeling angry or guilty or addicted, and we will engage with the purpose of bringing harmony and strength. (See Debbie Ford’s excellent book in the Resources section.)

A lot of my work involves seeing and acknowledging who we are on all levels. We so often hide the parts of us we think are bad. Besides the fact that judging ourselves is not useful, it takes a lot of energy to keep something hidden. Bringing it out into the light lets us see it for what it really is, and releases energy to be put to a more useful purpose.

Energy Techniques I Use

We live in an ocean of energy. It is the medium of spirit, emotion, memory and consciousness. Energy pulses through our bodies and cells, as important to our lives as blood, water or oxygen.

Everything I do, no matter what the focus of the session, is based on energy. I’m watching it and interacting with it. Even while just sitting and talking to you, I’m looking at the way our words affect your energy. This is something I’ve learned through experience, but it’s based on the models I’ve studied throughout the years.


Aura and Chakras

Our chakras are the organs of our energy system. Each chakra has a role in how we process energy, just as each organ of our digestive system has a role in how we break down and use the food we eat.

As we learn to use our chakras more efficiently, we are better able to use the energy around us to create the lives and experiences we choose.

As a Healing Intuitive, I watch your chakras in their interplay with energy, and teach you how to work with them so they function better.

I see which of your chakras are dominant, which are wounded, which are less used, which most color your perception of the world. And I help you learn to use them in a more balanced way, to create a more enjoyable life.

If you wish, I can also watch how they function in relationship to your significant other or at times of high stress or importance in your life, and teach you ways to make better use of your energy field at those times.

The chakras are useful as both metaphors and tools. They are metaphors in that they contain the stories of our lives. They respond to our various experiences, relationships, different times in our lives, aspects of our being, and lessons. By reading them we get a sense of the greater picture of our experiences, the spiritual interpretation of the mundane. Our chakras are also tools that shape the way we see the world and influence the way we experience life. We can learn to consciously use them to create our journey.

In my work as a Healing Intuitive, I embrace a variety of healing modalities ranging from energy work to reflexology to nutritional consulting. Over the almost twenty years I’ve been in practice, my clients have presented me a wide variety of  body/mind/spirit problems. What impresses me most is how often the chakra system plays a role in the situation. It’s akin to working on our core being. If that structure is healthy and sound it becomes much easier to make life’s adjustments and corrections.

Working with the chakras is simple and powerful. You will change your life patterns, rethink your goals, re-examine your life. And your chakras will support and energize you in ways you never dreamed possible.

Metamorphic Technique

“An opportunity to tap your own power, to heal yourself, to truly create yourself.”

The Metamorphic Technique is a gentle, specialized energy treatment of the feet, hands and head.

It releases stress patterns built into the psyche while in the womb, compounded during early childhood, and solidified by life experience.

These patterns—which reveal themselves through physical, emotional, or mental dis-ease —are gently cleared as the Metamorphic Technique accesses your own creative Life Force and its in-built desire to expand and change.

The dissolving of the old patterns takes place naturally, with a continual feeling of rightness and stability underlying the changes.

The old is cleansed, making way for personal growth and the realization of full potential.

During the session, you lie on the massage table fully clothed except for your feet.

I lightly touch the reflexes on your feet, hands, and head which correspond to the time before birth when you established many of your patterns and characteristics.

As a practitioner of the Metamorphic Technique, I am not attempting to help, heal or cure anything. Instead I am acting as a catalyst to let your body release prebirth stress patterns that are preventing you from experiencing your full potential.

I am providing you with an inner environment free of direction, interference, and preconceived ideas, thus allowing you to transform yourself in whatever way is necessary.

The Metamorphic Technique is a tool for becoming who you are, for transformation from within.

I do not know what your life force will realize for you after a session. Your transformation is unique.

Sometimes people notice immediate physical or emotional changes or changes in their environment; sometimes this change takes place at a subtle level that is hardly noticed by the conscious mind.

In general people notice that transformation happens automatically, unconsciously, and in a natural way.

There is no set number of sessions necessary for transformation and growth. Only you can decide when and how often you would like a session.

I recommend five weekly sessions to start the transformation process moving. Many people are happy to use this technique every week or two over long periods of time as a tool for transformation and realization of their potential. Others call for a session when they feel the need.

The Metamorphic Technique can be practiced on anyone, no matter the age or condition of health.

I have found it useful for people whose careers have stalled, and those stuck in patterns of chronic illness.

The Technique is for people looking for personal transformation, and people with illnesses, migraines, or other challenges.

For children, I do a short session on the parent(s) and a session on the child, and then teach the parents to do the Metamorphic Technique on their children at home.

The founder of this technique had great success with children with Down syndrome. It has also been found useful for children with autism.

The Radiance Technique®

The Radiance Technique® is a simple way to connect with the spark of life within you. It connects you with the vibration of oneness that is in every living thing.

When you access this energy, you become more connected with who you really are, that unifying part of you that transcends ego and personality and the physical body. Using or experiencing TRT® on a regular basis can help you achieve wholeness, mental and physical balance, spiritual awakening, and a sense of peace that resonates throughout your whole being.

Connecting with this Inner Light has been the goal of sages, yogis and mystics throughout millennia. Now with TRT® you can experience what the wise ones did.

I have studied to the Fourth Degree of TRT® and have found it a useful tool in my own spiritual awakening and growing awareness of energy. My physical body benefits from it too.

Benefits of Receiving TRT®

TRT® is relaxing and deeply healing on an emotional and spiritual level. It helps release stress and physical pain, and encourages the body’s natural healing processes.

The session often puts the client into a meditative state that heightens their sense of spiritual connection.

My clients find themselves more peaceful and centered after a session. Over the course of a few treatments they notice a greater sense of self-knowledge and inner peace.

Receiving TRT® Sessions

I offer TRT&® sessions both in person and remotely.

In a hands-on session, the client lies fully clothed on the massage table. I place my hands on each chakrra in turn, attuning each to the spark inside it. A session lasts about fifty minutes.

In a remote session, the client lies down at the pre-arranged time. I work on the inner planes to attune the client’s chakras just as if they were in my office with me. Some people fall asleep, others feel energy moving through their bodies, others report deep meditative visions. At the end of the session they can either rest a little longer, or get up and continue their day.

Other ways to benefit from TRT®

I also offer Radiant Support to any event, people or places you choose. Because I am connecting them to pure light energy, there is no need to receive conscious permission from the recipient to do this work (although it makes a nice gift to anyone who is open to it).

Many people ask me to direct to friends and family who are going through a difficult time. These appointments are not scheduled. The recipient does not need to be aware the process is happening, and will not be outwardly affected by it. (This is particularly useful when you’re working with someone who doesn’t believe in energy.) Amplifying their Inner Light with The Radiance Technique® gives them a feeling of support, and leads them to be more connected with their own strength.

People have found these sessions useful while preparing for or writing exams, undergoing stressful interviews or meetings, and even while celebrating special events.

Animals and humans appreciate TRT® during surgery, and also while preparing for transition.

Learn to Use TRT® Yourself

TRT® is a technique anyone can use on themselves, their families, their pets—any living thing. The technique is passed on through an attunement process, so you must attend a TRT® First Degree Seminar in order to use the technique. Once you have learned it, you will be able to do hands-on healing on yourself and others for the rest of your life. I highly recommend it.
